No Wallpaper for us#

The home has half of the wallpaper removed and this point and I think that it the decision going forward in the renovation process. While removing the wallpaper a lot of what is hidden behind it is revealed. Wires, holes, cracks and mold are all things that I’ve found at this point. I don’t mean that as a bad thing. It shows that there are things that need fixing and it is much easier to do it with the layer that is covering it, removed.

Proper tooling is always worth it#

I removed all the wallpaper in the first room with a joint knife and some water. To be fair, it is totally feasible. After getting a proper wallpaper knife though… I don’t know why I even tried to start working without it. I’m not a beginner when it comes to tools and their uses, but whether its to save a penny or “this will work just fine” attitude, it’s a lesson I keep signing up for. Some things are hard to do and sometimes you make it hard to do. Do your best to know which camp you are in.

Damage and Repair#

Seeing that there is enough damage to justify some repair I’m also going to consider what else I want to break before moving on to the next step. For example there is a couple light switches in awkward spots. Normally I’d just live with it, but it’s not every day that you get to rip apart the walls and set it up how you like.

After whatever modification are done we will have the walls prepped for painting. Colors haven’t been decided yet by the wife and kids, but I’m sure they will have more of an idea by the time the primer is on the wall.
